About us

Introduction

Fellowledge & Co was registered to the Uk Companies House in 1997 as a media and business consultancy and has been based in London. In 2003, the name was changed to Kaiwanoshima, Talking Island in English, when we began our internet mediacast project.

Our aim

Although we are aiming at the highest quality entertainment film productions, our priority lies on the point of "learning spoken English" and it sometimes requires to make a decision to reduce a number of filmed clips, where you might feel "a little difference" between a conventionally made film. Also the traditional film making often does not apply to (internet) mediacast particularly for us due to the fact that we must use flash movies in order to mediacast text screens simultaneously. We are confident that we have the balance correctly but we would welcome your feedbacks. An average duration of our film is 5-7 minutes, which is targeting the mct, maximum concentration time, for an average human. It is not a coincidence that an average TV programme lasts 30 minutes and divided by either a commercial or channel break into 2 parts.

The free channel

Generally speaking, we choose local people to talk about the area where they live so that:

  1. you can hear the local accents.
  2. you can listen to living English to the closest possible manner spoken in their daily life.

The changes in April 2008

We are working on a few changes and following 2 options are not available to a new member at the moment.

New membership types are now available and our monthly update is on the 12th.

The previous yearly membership is now called 'Gold' and 2 more yearly membership types are available for the access to the subscription channel.

The subscription channel

Our subscription channel gives you the space where you can either explore your interest in the British culture or develop your ability of using the English language further. For example, it would expand your understanding when you lean more about the Christianity in relation to the country as you might already know. We would like to make it easier for you to do so as we understand your general trend of interest and 1 film is always available in the subscription home, that is specially developed to improve your listening ability, called ‘English Study Tips’.

The archive channel

You can enjoy all the previously mediacast materials, maps, and much more. "English and Travel Tips" is designed to give you either 3 different English accents spoken in the same short lines or some details which help you to understand the other films better and traveling feeling in the region, which is also important for you to grasp the background spoken in them. A number of references are given during your viewing of "English and Travel Tips". The references are currently available in Japanese text.

All the films except ‘English and Travel Tips’ are given in 2 forms, namely a smaller size flash file with a choice of English subtitles and Japanese summaries, and a larger size without a text screen. More links are given so that you can learn the topics in depth and, if you wish, can build up your English vocabularies. These are not just links but carefully selected and highly reliable source of information. One of the regular links is the google map uk. Together with our own maps, you can follow the routes featured in the films which give you a feeling of being the place.

The number of the films will grow up to 80 for Gold members and 40 each for SCT, Scotland, and ENG, England and Wales, members.
